About the Light:
|
|
Iron plated, this 49 foot-tall light marks the point
where the busy channel of the Detroit River meets Lake Erie's steamboat tracks. When
this light was first established, few lake boats could be found thatwere sized in
excess of 300 feet. Today, oreboats that stretch beyond 1,000 feet in length pass
by the light. In the mid 1880s, the mariners looked up from the deck at the light.
Now the modern mariners actually look down as they pass by! |
