Lighthouses of Lake Erie               Buffalo Breakwater(Leaning) 24 Established: 1872 Status:   Demolished Location:   (NY) Formerly on the outer breakwater Type:   Integral Access:   None       About the Light:   A need for an additional navigation aid caused the construction of this light in 1872 as a supplement to the inner harbor light. It performed that task until 1958 when the 600 foot oreboat FRONTENAC smacked into the structure while attempting to turn. The impact knocked the entire lighthouse off its foundation and gave it a 16 degree lean!
